The T-Module (TM) is a highly efficient banking solution, responsible for the reconciliation of daily banking procedures. It is a vital component in day-to-day operations, ensuring that discrepancies in data resulting from user error are removed from the system and that all records, such as account statements, balances and transactions, are reconciled.
Areas of Usage
The TM is a matching intelligence and in simple terms, operates in accordance with a flexible set of rules. It automates the reconciliation of the Bank’s MT940 and MT950 SWIFT messages and accounting procedures. The system also manages incoming and outgoing SWIFT messages. In doing so, the potential for user error and the recording of incorrect information is minimised.
Key features of TM include:
- Confirmation matching – Involving the reconciliation of SWIFT messages.
- Nostro statement matching – Reconciling items posted to the General Ledger.
- Modular structure – This system offers a modular structure on both a programming and system level.
- Flexibility – TM can be fitted to other applications and extended if necessary. This enables the Bank to tailor the system in accordance to its needs.
- Online operation – The system is considered online and allows processing throughout the day.
- Compliance – The TM complies with auditing criteria and recovery functions.
- Integrity – The authorisation of users can be set on both function and branch levels, while a comprehensive Help function can be expanded by the user to incorporate necessary topics.
- Compatibility – The TM system has been designed to integrate with Midas for the upmost flexibility and compatibility.
The TM system is comprised of several modules, with the main groups connected to the functions of data selection and matching. The central database - the centrum table - collects key data from the transaction databases and it is around this which the programme system revolves. The selection modules prevent the centrum table from reaching its capacity for information, while interface sub-modules increase the system’s potential for wider application.
Discrepancies within a system quickly prove detrimental to the Bank’s operations. As such, an efficient reconciling system, such as the TM, is essential in removing any flaws and manual errors. The TM is particularly effective, in that its process has been designed with ease-of-use in mind, offering a total of three pairing methods (manual, semi-automatic and automatic).
A central file contains the records to reconcile and the TM clearly labels each record as to the nature of its state. The specific account number drives the matching process, and the numbers under investigation are then stored in a driver file. During the pairing process, the system has been designed to deal with the one specific account and to focus on its relevant items.
